Only 14km away from Europe , Morocco is blessed with an exceptional geography divided into 4 main natural regions, offering a great variety of outstanding landscapes.
To the west, the plains of Sebou, Mesema and Sous flank 2934km of Atlantic coast. This is Morocco 's richest and most populated region because of its widespread agriculture and the benefits it reaps from the business of the capital, Rabat , the tourism of Marrakech and one of Africa 's largest ports, Casablanca .
To the south, the Sahara , which occupies over 30% of Moroccan territory, separates Morocco from Algeria (along a 1350km border) and from Mauritania (650km border). Consisting of large stretches of dunes (erg) and a vast rocky desert (reg), it is inhabited by a few nomadic groups which come together around the oases.
Some 700km long and 40km wide, the Atlas Mountains traverse the county; almost 100,000km2 of land rises up above 2000m across a chain of three mountains – from north to south – the Middle Atlas, the High Atlas (with North Africa's crowning point - Djebel Toukbal, 4156m high) and the Anti-Atlas on the edge of the desert.
The influences of the Mediterranean , Atlantic and Sahara make Morocco a country of adventure and beauty, inviting travel and discovery.
